President Murmu inaugurates various tourist attractions at Rashtrapati Nilayam

Hyderabad: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday inaugurated various tourist attractions at Rashtrapati Nilayam here, including a replica of the flag post on which the Tricolour was hoisted after the taking down of the Hyderabad State flag after Police Action.

The original flag post on which the Tricolour was hoisted on September 17, 1948, after Operation Polo, had been dismantled in 2010 as it had become dilapidated, according to a statement.

The replica, made of teak wood, and is divided into three parts — two 15-metre square sections and a six-metre circular section, each reinforced with stainless plates and and copper hoops.

Ten foundations have been reused, and four new stone foundations have been added for stability.

The President also inaugurated new enclaves of the knowledge gallery depicting the story of the crisis in Hyderabad during the unification of princely states, Operation Polo and the liberation of Hyderabad.

The President, who is staying at Rashtrapati Nilayam during her winter sojourn, inaugurated a maze garden and a children's park.

Further, three stepwells were restored to help capture 13 million litres of rainwater annually. A Shiva and Nandi Bull sculpture was also inaugurated by the President.
