BJP Leader Slams Telangana Govt Over Tablighi Jamaat Funding

BJP National General Secretary accuses state government of supporting controversial organization amidst concerns of terrorism

Karimnagar: “It is unfair that the state government sanctioned funds for the Tablighi Jamaat organisation that is promoting forceful religious conversions and terrorism in the country,” said BJP national general secretary and Karimnagar MP, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, here on Wednesday.

Notably, the Telangana government has approved a sanction of Rs 2.45 crore for the three-day congregation of Tablighi Jamaat from January 6 to 8 at Nematganar village in Pargi mandal of Vikarabad district.

In a statement, Bandi Sanjay came down heavily against the Congress government. “At a time when the state is facing an economic crisis and is unable to pay even interests for the loan it has taken during the BRS term, it is an unforgivable mistake that the newly formed Congress government sanctioned Rs 2.45 crore to an organisation that is acting against Hinduism and encouraging terrorism,” he said.

It was because of the Tablighi Jamaat that the Covid-19 virus spread widely across the country after it held mass prayers at the Nizamuddin Markaz Bhavan in New Delhi, from March 1 to 15 in 2020, the BJP leader alleged.

He added, “Again, when the new variant of the Coronavirus is spreading slowly across the country, such organisations are encouraged to conduct meetings and gatherings in the state. Instead of taking serious action against the organisation, the state government is sanctioning funds and is encouraging it, he alleged.

Islamic countries like Soudi Arabia, Ujjakistan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan banned the Tablighi Jamaat for its acts of “encouraging terrorism” and restrained its members from entering the prayer halls, Bandi Sanjay said.

“The state government must suspend the meeting at Vikarabad. Otherwise the government will face severe consequences,” he warned.
