Unpunctual'? Face recognition system for bureaucrats soon

The BBMP head office currently has Aadhaar based biometric system for marking attendance.

Bengaluru: In order to keep a closer tab on BBMP babus, the administration will soon bring in face recognition system to mark the attendance of employees at BBMP head office. This will be the first government office in the state to implement such a system.

The BBMP head office currently has Aadhaar based biometric system for marking attendance. A senior officer in the BBMP administration department said the new system will help in keeping a track on the attendance of the officials and employees.

“The current system is not completely effective, as there is no track on the duration of hours spent by the officials in the office. The new system will give us the complete details of when they come and when they leave. So this will help us know who is walking in late or leaving early and number of hours clocked in the day.”

“It is still being discussed, but we definitely need such a system, as many employees do not maintain punctuality and leave early. We will use the system for a month on an experimental basis and see how it works. For now every official working at the BBMP headquarters will be using the face recognition system and gradually it will be implemented across all Palike offices,” the officer added.

Another official revealed that they were in touch with private companies that install face recognition system and tenders will be floated soon.

“We will have a trial period of a month and simultaneously, the bio-metric system will also be operational. We are planning to start using face recognition system in a full-fledged manner in a couple of months. There are also plans to link this system with the bank account, where the salary gets credited, so that it will deduct salary when they are late or leave early,” he added.
