Mud wall collapse: Police detain 2 BWSSB officials

According to the police, four of them were summoned and taken into custody for a detailed questioning.

Bengaluru: A day after Madivalappa, a 26-year-old daily wage worker, died due to a mud wall collapse, while carrying out excavation at a BWSSB storm water drain, the RR Nagar police have detained four people for questioning.

They have been identified as Sneha, BWSSB Assistant Executive Engineer, Dilip, BWSSB Assistant Engineer, Naveen, the contractor and Navaneet Kumar.

The police had taken up a case of death due to negligence against the BWSSB engineers, who were in-charge of the project, and the contractor.

According to the police, four of them were summoned and taken into custody for a detailed questioning.

The incident happened when Madivalappa, along with five others were excavating a storm water drain to connect an underground sewage water pipe near Padmavathi Meenakshi Kalyana Mantapa.

A part of mud wall collapsed on them. While five of them were rescued by fellow workers, Madivalappa remained stuck and fire and rescue operation personnel could retrieve the body only after five hours.

Prabhu, a relative of Madivalappa, has filed a police complaint alleging that no safety measures were followed at the work site, nor were the workers provided any safety equipment.

The police are questioning the officials to the ascertain the details of the project, in order to take legal action.
