Hyderabad: GHMC, Army talk on roads
HYDERABAD: The state government and the local military authority have taken up the issue of alternative roads in Secunderabad Cantonment in all earnest. GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy will meet the general officer commanding (GOC) of Telangana and Andhra Sub Areas (TASA) and other senior officials of the Army over the issue on Thursday.
The meeting will discuss ways to construct new alternative roads from Safiguda Railway Gate to Allahabad Gate (East Marredpally) and RK Puram to Safilguda.
According to sources, the Army wants the government to take up construction work for the road from Safilguda gate to Allahabad gate, a 2.9 km stretch, at the earliest. The Army establishment is ready to part with 30 acres of its land for the road construction and wants the government to expedite the necessary clearances.
However, there is difference of opinion on the second alternative road from RK Puram to Safilguda, a 1.7 km stretch.
The state government has a design for an alternative road ready, but Army officials are putting forth a flyover on the stretch as a better option. Railway authorities have also been invited to the meeting.
