Biometric based attendance for SCB employees
HYDERABAD: From the New Year onwards, officials and staff of Secunderabad Cantonment Board will have their movements tracked while at office every day. The Cantonment administration will be implementing Aadhaar-linked Biometric attendance system from January 1 onwards.
The two major advantages, according to SCB CEO S.V.R.Chandrashekar, are that it would ensure accountability among the SCB staff and also it would give opportunity to general public to know whether the officer they would like to meet was present or not on that particular day.
“Public have to open attendance.gov.in website and log in to check real time attendance of employees working in hundreds of central government organisations across the country. They have to click on SCB link and see if the concerned official was present in the office and then go and meet him. This system will save time and energy for the public,” he said.
Initially biometric attendance would be recorded for 150-odd authorities working in SCB main office. Cantonment also has over 400 staff members working at field level in its eight wards. They would also be brought under this ambit in coming months, the CEO said.
In the Aadhaar linked biometric attendance, the staff member has to enter last eight digits of his Aadhaar number and then give his finger print. SCB has kept a dedicated computer system and scanner in administration wing for staff to give their biometric attendance.
This new system of attendance is being tried on experimental basis from December first week onwards. Authorities have decided to extend this facility until end of this month for staff to get adjusted to the new system.
“The office timings are from 10.30 to 5 pm. The usual practice of late comers losing one casual leave for reaching office half an hour late for three days and other rules that are being implemented in other Central government offices will be applied as it is,” official said. SCB vice-president J. Ramakrishna said that biometric attendance would improve staff efficiency.
