About 8,000 students have registered as delegates so far, he added.

BENGALURU: Farmers from across the country, who have developed innovative methods, will stand out at the annual science jamboree, the Indian Science Congress, commencing here on January 3, 2020 and will provide growers’ details of novel techniques of cultivation besides offering tips on how to sustain their families during natural calamities.

For the first time, ‘Farmers Science Congress’ would be held as part of the annual science jamboree with the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) set to support the proposal to invite at least two from each state—along with experts at National Innovation Foundation, Ahmedabad, and organizations such as Gram Bharati Samiti, to interact with farmers. The hosts, University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Bengaluru, would request farmers of all districts of Karnataka to participate in this event, says Dr S Rajendra Prasad, Vice Chancellor of UAS and Chairman of the local organizing committee.

He said this event would help farmers at a time when some parts of the state are inundated by rivers in spate while in other parts, rain has remained elusive through the year.

He told Deccan Chronicle that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would inaugurate Indian Science Congress at the GKVK campus on January 3. Based on the theme: ‘Science & Technology: Rural development,’ Women’s Science Congress, Children’s Science Congress, a Science exhibition and a Communicators’ Meet would also constitute a part of the five-day event, he added.

Dr Rajendra Prasad said in addition, former Vice Chancellors would address the issue of improving higher education and submit a set of recommendations to the Union government

He said more than 20,000 delegates from across the world, including Nobel prize winners, would participate in the event including invited lectures, presentation of papers, and posters. About 8,000 students have registered as delegates so far, he added.
