Chennai: Five killed in separate road accidents in city
Chennai: In a horrific accident on the ECR, three people, including a minor girl, were killed and one person hospitalised after the bike they were all on was hit by a van on Tuesday night.
It is said the four youths were on a road trip to Mamallapuram to celebrate the girl’s birthday.
The accident occurred near Mamallapuram on the East Coast Road at around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The bike was being driven by 19-year-old Bhaarath and Dilli, a 15-year-old girl and an unidentified youth were reportedly riding pillion.
According to sources, the four were coming from Mamallapuram to Chennai on a two-wheeler. After filling fuel for the bike near Mamallapuram, Bhaarath was riding on the wrong side when a minivan going towards Puduchery hit their vehicle at a turning, throwing all four on to the road.
Sources said three of them, including the girl, died on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as a 15-year-old girl, a resident of New Colony in Anna Nagar, Dilli (19) of Perumbakkam, Sholinganallur and Bhaarath (19) of Water Tank colony in Kotturpuram. The fourth person who is yet to be identified had a narrow escape and was admitted to Chengalpet Government hospital for treatment.
The Mamallapuram police registered a case.
A police officer from Mamallapuram police station said, “We are yet to find out details about the survivor. So far no one has come forward claiming to know him and he had no ID card on him.”
“He is unconscious and we are currently investigating to find out his details,” he added.
In another incident, in a hit and run case, a man who was riding his two-wheeler on Manjampakkam came under the wheels of a heavy vehicle. The victim was identified as Babu (47), a resident of Ram Nagar, Avadi who was working at the Ambattur court. He was riding on 200-Feet-Road, Manjampakkam when a heavy vehicle hit him. Madhavaram traffic investigation wing has registered a case.
In another accident on Wednesday, a 26-year-old man was crushed to death under the wheels of a lorry after he tried to overtake it near Somangalam.
The deceased, identified as, K.Sathish, a resident of Naduveerapatti in Somangalam, is employed at the Tambaram RTO office.
When he was heading to his office on a two-wheeler on Wednesday afternoon, he tried to overtake a truck, lost control and fell under the wheels of the truck and died on the spot.
The Somangalam police sent the body to the Chromepet government hospital.
