Pampa: The State Human Rights Commission visited Sabarimala on Tuesday and inspected the facilities at Pampa, Nilakkal and Sannidanam.
Commission chairman Justice Antony Dominic (retd) said that a number of pilgrims had expre-ssed their difficulties to the commission.
“A group of people who took auction for providing materials for offerings said that the police restrictions on the transport had affected their business. Some pilgrims complained about the delay in the services of KSRTC air conditioned buses from Pampa. The officials told us that at least 271 toilets are currently functioning in Pampa and 88 more will be launched soon,” he said.
A pilgrim told the commission in front of a toilet complex that water was available. Another pilgrim from Tamil Nadu said he and his group had a happy darshan.
Santhosh, a pilgrim from Aluva, complained to the commission that they were not allowed to stay at Nadapandal at Sannidanam. The commission asked the pilgrim to send a written complaint.
The commission would seek reports from various departments on the facilities available at Sabarimala, Justice Dominic said.
He also said that the commission had not taken any suo motu case in connection with violent incidents in the wake of the Supreme Court verdict on the entry of young women in the temple. “It is unviable to take any suo motu case as the issue is still under the consideration of the courts,” he said. The chairman was accompanied by members P. Mohandas and M.K. Mohankumar.
