Ooty: Tribal trampled to death by wild jumbo

Forest sources said that on Tuesday morning, the body of a man was found lying near the Masinagudi bridge with injuries.

Ooty: A tribal was trampled to death by a wild elephant in the Masinagudi area in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) buffer zone limits. Forest sources said that on Tuesday morning, the body of a man was found lying near the Masinagudi bridge with injuries.

He was later identified as B.Madhavan (45), a tribal hailing from Kurubarpallam hamlet in Bokkapuram village near Masinagudi. “Preliminary investigations led to the conclusion that he was trampled to death by a wild elephant when he was crossing that area on Monday night.

The body has been sent to the government hospital in Gudalur for post-mortem. Further investigation is underway,” sources added.

Foresters in the MTR buffer zone cautioned residents in villages in and around the MTR buffer zone limits, especially tribals, to be careful while commuting on the jungle paths at night as wild elephants move along water sources at night in search of water and fodder.
