Govt engages over 3 lakh persons, 7.81 lakh food packets distributed: S P Velumani

The government has been supplying potable drinking water to people in Thiruvaur, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur and Pudukottai district.

Chennai: Minister for municipal administration, rural development and implementation of special programme S.P. Velumani distributed relief materials to cyclone affected people in Nagapattinam district on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, the minister in Nagapattinam said rural development department joining hands with other department engaged in relief and rescue operation in Nagapatinam, Thiruvaur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Cuddalore and Dindugal districts.

Besides according importance to rehabilitation activities the government has accommodated more than 3 lakh persons in 685 temporary relief centres in the districts. So far 7.81 lakh food packets have been distributed to people in the camps.

He said more than 1,100 poclains, 281 lorries, 87 hitachi machines, 110 tractors, 2566 tree cutters, 207 oil engines, 1243 generators, 630 motors, 918 led lamps were used in the operation. More than 17,740 workers, drawn from others districts were working round the clock to restore normalcy in the districts.

The government has been supplying potable drinking water to people in Thiruvaur, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur and Pudukottai district. Efforts were being taken to provide uninterrupted power supply in the districts.
