Chennai: Health Minister C Vijayabaskar oversees progress in relief work

More than 1,35,271 people have been treated in the camps with the help of more than 900 medical practitioners currently.

Chennai: The state health department is conducting medical camps in the Gaja affected delta region. Around 2,214 medical camps were operating. More than 1,35,271 people have been treated in the camps with the help of more than 900 medical practitioners currently.

Meanwhile, Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar, who is overseeing health care services in Gaja affected region rescued a worker engaged in restoration work of electricity poles in Kalamavur village in Pudukottai district as he suffered from electrocution and injury. Health minister rescued the worker himself and also rushed the patient to Tiruchy medical college and hospital and oversaw the treatment of the patient at the hospital.

The health department is to deploy 30 more doctors and nurses to provide medical care and relief work. “The department is taking efforts towards the prevention of vector-borne diseases for past five days. Over 400 tonnes of bleaching powder has been sprayed in the localities to prevent the rise in mosquitoes and resulting diseases after the recent rains. The potability test of water has also been done to prevent water-borne diseases,” said senior health department officials.

The health department has allotted Rs 80 lakh for the purchase of medicines and other medications in four severely affected districts. Nilavembu Kudineeer has also been distributed to more than 3,70,000 people.
