Action against ship already taken, no need for PIL: Judge

In his petition, Renu Karthick sought a direction to the Union and State governments to take action against the ship.

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has informed the Madras high court that 95 per cent of cleaning of oil spill, caused by the vessel MT Coral Stars on November 18 at Kamarajar Port, has already been over and the remaining will be completed within two days.

Recording the same, a division bench comprising Justices S. Manikumar and Subramonium Prasad said relief sought for by the petitioner has been addressed by the authorities and no further direction is required in the public interest litigation filed by R. Renu Karthick.

In his petition, Renu Karthick sought a direction to the Union and State governments to take action against the ship, which caused oil spill on November 18 in Kamarajar Port and to take steps for initiating the prosecution and recover the cost from the erred parties and to save the interests of fishermen.
