Andhhra Pradesh: Students role vital to stop child marriages, say dignitaries
Visakhapatnam: Support of the college students is the need of the hour to stop child marriages, felt the dignitaries present at the meeting conducted at A.S Raja Women's College on Monday to celebrate the Universal Children’s Day as part of the Child Rights Convention Week.
The dignitaries spoke about various issues being faced by the children. The AP Child Rights Protection Forum state president Gondu Sitaraman said the rising child marriage incidents in the whole district and even the Vizag city was alarming. The students are being sensitised about the child rights so that they can help out the children facing any sort of abuse.
District Child Protection Officer Satyanarayana said college students were playing a key role in protecting the rights of the children and cooperating in building a safe society for children. A debate competition was also conducted for school students on various child rights issues. The staff members of the District Child Care Unit, World Vision, Child Rights Protection Forum were present.
