Immolation bid: Bengaluru police launch internal probe
BENGALURU: The police have launched an internal probe into a suicide attempt by a habitual offender at the Bommanahalli police station on Saturday.
Ravi alias Chappar Ravi, 21, a resident of Hosur Road, was picked up by the Bommanahalli police station on Saturday afternoon. He was allegedly involved in several theft and robbery cases and the police were questioning him. He reportedly revealed about a few other cases and around 7.30 pm, while the policemen at the station were busy with other formalities related to his case, he went into the toilet saying he wanted to attend nature’s call.
“Just a few minutes after he went in, the policemen found smoke coming out of the toilet and soon they also heard him screaming. They immediately doused the fire and took him to a hospital. Preliminary investigation revealed that Ravi had a matchbox with him and he set fire to the shirt he was wearing. He has sustained burns and is recovering,” DCP (South-East) Dr M.B. Boralingaiah told Deccan Chronicle
Asked whether any action will be initiated against the policemen at the station for their negligence, the DCP said that the internal inquiry is being carried out and further action will be taken based on its findings.
