Hyderabad: Central teams comprising senior IAS officers will visit Telangana and Andhra Pradesh this week to assess the impact of demonetisation following reports of hardships being faced by people, business establishments and industries.
Officials from Niti Aayog will accompany the teams which will take up field-visits in select towns and villages and interact with various sections to receive feedback and report back to the Centre.
The Centre has deputed three IAS officers to AP and two to TS as part of study teams being constituted to assess the impact of demonetisation across the country.
These teams will comprise additional secretary, joint secretary, director, and deputy secretary-rank officials working with various Central ministries and departments.
For AP, the officials deputed included Mr A.P. Sawhney, assistant secretary, ministry of petroleum and natural gas; Mr Atul Chaturvedi, joint secretary, department of industrial policy and promotion; and Mr Tapish Chandra Nuatiyal, deputy secretary, department of rural development
For TS, Mr R. Subrahmanyam, assistant secretary, department of higher education and Ms Anamika Singh, deputy secretary, department of school education, have been deputed.
The Centre has sent circulars to all state governments in this regard. The circular issued by department of personnel and training director Jagannath Srinivasan, stated: “They are deputed to undertake field visits to make on-the-spot assessment of the situation.”
The move assumes significance in the backdrop of the Centre receiving contrasting reports on the impact of demonetisation from state governments since November 9.
All the states claim to be suffering huge revenue losses on account of demonetisation. In fact, TS Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who is on a visit to New Delhi, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday and brought to his notice that the TS government had suffered over Rs 3,000 crore losses while all sections were facing hardships.
