DGP Anjani Kumar pays tribute to 189 hero cops on Police Martyrs Day

Hyderabad: DGP Anjani Kumar paid tribute to police officers who 189 police officers, from across the country, who died in the line of duty on Saturday, which is observed as Police Martyrs Day.

In an event organised at Goshamahal, Anjani Kumar said that Telangana was leading the country in police services. “In remembrance of brave police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, October 21st, every year is observed as ‘Police Flag Day’,” he said.

He said that Telangana has the highest number of CCTV cameras in the country, with the crime rate also dipping.

After paying respects at a memorial structure, carrying the names of deceased police personnel, the DGP unveiled a book titled ‘Amaruluvaru’,

He said: “Great victories come from great sacrifices. The date is significant as it was on this day in 1959 that 10 officers of the CRPF made supreme sacrifice for the country at the Indo-China border. In the past 12 months, 189 police officers laid down their lives in the line of duty across the country. I salute the officers who were discharging their duties efficiently despite facing many challenges.”

City police commissioner Sandeep Shandilya said that the safety of women and children was being given the highest priority.

The names of all 189 officers were read out, following which a two-minute silence was observed.

The event was a grand affair, with retired DGPs, senior officials and families of the immortalised police personnel attending in large numbers.

In the event held in Nalgonda, district SP K. Apoorva Rao said: “This year, 189 police officers were martyred in the fight against anti-social forces across the country; 15 of them belonged to Nalgonda district.”

“In commemoration of this day, various programmes, including police open house, mega blood donation camps, short films, photography competitions, essay competitions for students and cycle racing will be held till October 31 at the 12th battalion commandant office,” Apoorva said.

Senior police officers, district collectors and other heads of the departments were also present on the occasion.
