Delta variant still on prowl, vacconation is a must: Expert

There are 75% people in the state who have opted for the first dose of vaccine but in the second dose the coverage is only 39%

Hyderabad: A total of 69 lakh people in the state had not taken the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine and more than 36 lakh people the second dose as they believed that Covid-19 disease would not strike again, stated the director of public health Dr Srinivasa Rao. Dr Rao urged people not to take delta variant of SARS-Cov 2 lightly and avail of the vaccine.

The doses were available with the government to the extent of 50 lakh, he said, adding that in the market too, doses were available in the private sector.

Dr Rao said, "People are again thinking that SARS-Cov 2 virus will not affect them and that they will not get Covid-19. That is wrong. Vaccine is the protection and it is 99 per cent effective. People must come forward and get themselves vaccinated."

There are 75 per cent people in the state who have opted for the first dose of vaccine but in the second dose the coverage is only 39 percent. Dr Rao said, "People are considering that one dose is sufficient for protection but that is not so. We are giving the second dose in various camps organised across the state and those who have taken the first dose must come forward for the second dose."

In Hyderabad city, five lakh people have not taken both the doses of vaccines. The government is planning to complete three crore doses by October 22nd.
