Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party leader Dhananjay Munde was booked late on Saturday night for allegedly making obscene comments about his estranged cousin and political rival Pankaja Munde at a public meeting. They are locked in a fierce contest for the Parli Assembly seat in Beed district.
The cousin vs cousin battle came on the eve of the Maharashtra and Haryana elections and bypolls to 51 Assembly seats, including Huzurnagar seat in Telan-gana, and two LS constituencies spread across 18 states, which will involve about 12 crore voters.
The Maharashtra State Commission for Women on Sunday took suo motu cognisance of Mr Dhananjay Munde’s alleged actions and its chairperson, Ms Vijaya Rahatkar the remarks, prima facie, seemed objectionable.
Maharashtra State Commission for Women chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar said that action would be taken against the NCP leader after an inquiry. The commission also tweeted in Marathi, “Dhananjay Munde’s statement is shocking and indecent.”
A complaint against Mr Dhananjay Munde, leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, was filed by Parli BJP president Jugal Kishor Lohiya after a video went viral on social media, an official said. Mr Lohiya claimed that the NCP leader allegedly made the obscene remarks against the BJP minister at a public meeting on October 17. The BJP had complained to the EC and the women’s commission against the NCP leader’s remarks. Some BJP workers also burnt his effigy.
