Hyderabad: Following a call from the Union minister Maneka Gandhi to have an internal mechanism within political parties to address issues of sexual abuses on women activists, the Telugu Desam said they are working out modalities to constitute an internal complaint committee.
The TD’s women’s wing chief Badiga Shoba Rani said that the political parties ought to have systems in place and the TD is committed to equal opportunity irrespective of gender. Ensuring the safety of woman activists is our prime concern, she said.
Meanwhile, the BJP Mahila Wing Akula Vijaya said such instances would not happen in their party as it is a disciplined organisation. She said the BJP has a disciplinary committee to look into such complaints.
In the Congress, complaints are registered at the state level and then referred to the party headquarters.
