Sabari's cash registers continue to ring, claims TDB

The shrine will close on Monday evening after the five day monthly puja during the Malayalam month of Thulam.

Thiruvananthapuram: Travancore Devaswom Board officials are worried that some organisations were trying to create unrest at Sabarimala over the Supreme Court verdict on the women’s entry. But they are happy that the daily collections have not gone down despite the chaos.

Though the police are in charge of law and order, the board officials are also on tenterhooks. Mr K.P. Sankaradas, board member, told DC that despite the protests by Hindu organisations, the flow of pilgrims and their offerings had not gone down. On Saturday he had flayed the action of 30 parikarmis (priests who assist the chief priest in conducting daily pujas) for protesting in front of the 18 holy steps at Sannidhanam against the police decision to escort two women to the temple.

“Though two more days are left for the closure of the temple, the flow of pilgrims continues,” he said.

The board officials had not disobeyed the SC verdict, he said. The officials praised the police force led by Mr Manoj Abraham, Inspector-General of Police, Thiruvananthapuram Range, who gave shape to ‘Operation Refuse’ at Sabarimala to deal with anti-social elements. The shrine will close on Monday evening after the five-day monthly puja.
