Krishna river: Inflows fall, officials shut crest gates
Hyderabad: Due to a drastic reduction in inflows in the Krishna river, respective authorities of various dams have closed the spillway/ crest gates by Friday morning.
Almatti, Narayanapur, Jurala and Srisailam have closed the shutters and are managing the surplus inflows by operating power houses.
Presently, there is inflow of around 53,000 cusecs at Srisailam Dam which is being routed to downstream Nagarjunasagar dam through power houses.
“We have actually asked the TS Genco to stop power production in view of reduced inflows and from Andhra Pradesh side as we have closed Right Bank power house, but TS Genco officials are still operating it,” Srisailam Chief En-gineer C. Narayana Reddy said.
However, Nagarjuna-sagar Dam on Friday evening touched 570 ft level against full level of 590 ft. The Krishna river management boa-rd has not decided on the meeting with TS and AP over making fresh allocations for raising crops under the Rabi season due to their preparatory meetings with Polavaram project issues.
