Bihar: Man made to lick spit as punishment
Patna: A village panchayat in Nalanda district of Bihar ordered an elderly man, Mahesh Thakur, to lick his own spit as a punishment for entering the house of sarpanch without knocking the door.
An FIR has been registered against eight persons including the sarpanch who allegedly passed the order.
According to the police, Mahesh Thakur was also beaten up by slippers by village women during the panchayat meeting.
“Officials have been asked to gather information regarding the incident. The victim has confirmed the incident, action will be taken against those who have been involved,” Nalanda district magistrate S.M. Thyagrajan said on Friday.
The incident took place in Ajaypur village of Noorsarai block in Nalanda district, which is also the home district of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. “The victim was also beaten up by women during the panchayat on Thursday,” Nalanda district magistrate told reporters on Friday.
According to the police, a special team has been constituted and raids are being conducted to arrest those who have been involved in the incident.
Sources from Nalanda informed this newspaper that Mahesh Thakur tried to enter the house of sarpanch when no male member was present.
According to the district administration, Mahesh Thakur who belongs to barber community and had gone to the house of sarpanch on Wednesday evening for tobacco.
