Centre to give T-Hub of Telangana a TBI' status boost

The Centre is expected to accord technology business incubator' status to T-Hub soon and grant funds for its expansion.

Hyderabad: T-Hub, the country's largest incubator for startups established by the TS government, is all set to get a boost from the Centre. The Centre is expected to accord ‘technology business incubator’ status to T-Hub soon and grant funds for its expansion.

TBI status is normally given to startups in prestigious institutions like IITs, IIMs etc. With the new status, T-Hub will get Rs 6 crore grant initially and later up to Rs 50 crore from the Centre.

The national committee of the Centre's science and technology department has recommended TBI status to T-Hub. If the recommendation is accepted, T-Hub would become the first non-academic institution in the country to get this status.

The Centre is also in favour of recognising T-Hub as one among the ‘centres of excellence’ and grant funds for future expansion activities. Normally, the Centre grants funds based on the performance of institutions over a period of five years.

However, T-Hub which was established only an year ago in 2015 will become an exception, under which it would be eligible for a grant up to Rs 50 crore. IT secretary Jayesh Ranjan expressed happiness over Centre recognising T-Hub performance within a year of its launch and coming forward to extend grants liberally for its future expansion activities.
