Stalin wants Modi to get 100 captive Indians released from Myanmar

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin sought the immediate intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in rescuing the 300 Indians, 50 of them from Tamil Nadu, who have been held in illegal captivity in Myanmar.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, Stalin said the Indians, who had initially gone to Thailand to take up IT related jobs through private recruitment agencies, were forcibly taken to Myanmar, where they were now facing hardship.

They were physically assaulted by their employees when they refused to do illegal work online in Myanmar, he said, adding that the state government was in touch with 17 of them from Tamil Nadu, who were desperately seeking quick government intervention in rescuing them.

"Considering the plight of our citizens, I request that MEA may be instructed to take up the issue with the authorities in Myanmar for the immediate rescue and safe repatriation of Indians held in illegal captivity in Myanmar," Stalin said.
