Hyderabad: Speeding SUV mows down 2

The family was on their way to hospital.

Hyderabad: A nurse and her five-year-old nephew were killed, when riding pillion on a bike that was hit by a speeding SUV at Alwal on Thursday night. The woman's brother, who was driving the bike, has been injured and has been admitted to a private hospital in Kacheguda for treatment.

The Alwal police have identified the deceased persons as C. Priyadarshini (28), a nurse at Neelima Hospital in Sanathnagar, and her nephew Ayaan Wood (5). As Ayaan was suffering from fever and vomiting, Priyardarshini and her brother Varun were taking him to Rush Hospital, where she had worked as a nurse earlier.

An SUV (TS 07 UF 7003) that according to the police was being driven at high speed hit the bike on which the trio was travelling and then jumped to its right, landing on the median.

Priyadarshini and Ayaan died on the spot, while Varun escaped with mild injuries and is in hospital, said the police.

Ayaan was the older of twin boys of Varun and Sharmila, who live in the BHEL Enclave in Alwal. Priyadarshini had just got married in December 2018.

The driver of the SUV is a graduate student from Nizam College, Raghvanedra Chari. A breathalyser test showed he was not under the influence of alcohol. The car was rented. Chary along with his four friends were heading to Sangareddy from Alwal, said the police.

Inspector P Yadagiri of the Alwal police said, “Raghavendra Chary, a student, has driven the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner resulting in the death of two persons.”

A case under section 304 A of Indian Penal Code (causing death by negligence) has been registered against the driver and he has been taken into custody for questioning.
