Fearing fine, Delhi cabbies start keeping condoms in their vehicles
New Delhi: Delhi cabbies have fallen prey to a bizarre rumour which is making them keep condoms on themselves.
The cab drivers say if they don't carry a condom, they are likely to get fined, India Today reported.
The rumour was started by a cab driver, Dharmendra, who claimed he was fined for not keeping a condom in his cab.
Dharmendra stated the traffic police fined him for not having kept a condom in his first-aid kid. However, his challan receipt cited over-speeding.
Delhi Sarvodaya Driver Association president, Kamaljeet Gill said all cab drivers are supposed to carry at least three condoms.
Kamaljeet, another cab driver, said condoms can come in handy to stop bleeding or to treat a wound.
It was also claimed by the cab drivers that they ask for condoms during fitness tests.
However, no such rule, according to the Motor Vehicle Act, states that cab drivers should carry condoms in their vehicles.
'If this is the case, the cab driver should contact authorities,' a traffic official said.
