Jet fiasco: Mild deafness to remain for some time, says doctor

Five patients have mild conductive deafness, which is likely to take 7-10 days to heal.

Hyderabad: Some of the passengers will have mild conductive deafness for some period of time. Nanavati Hospital’s chief operating officer Rajendra Patankar said, “Five patients have mild conductive deafness, which is likely to take 7-10 days to heal. They are advised not to fly till then.’

Dr M. Hemanth Rao of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences said, ‘’This is a case of ‘Baro-Trauma’. If the cabin pressure is not maintained, the ear drums may get ruptured due to negative pressure and the patient may suffer nose-bleed, ear-bleed or they may have life long ringing sensation in ears.’
