Hyderabad High Court not to take up society meet issue

The bench also found fault with the agenda for the meeting which was mooted for a no-confidence vote against the committee.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday refused to intervene in an order granted by a single judge who had stayed a notice issued by the Hyderabad district registrar of cooperative societies directing Vijaya Cooperative Housing and Building Society at Jubilee Hills to conduct its general body meeting.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and Justice T. Rajani while dismissing the appeal by Mr Manohar Reddy and 29 others challenging the order of the single judge, found fault with the district registrar for issuing directions to the society based on a letter by minister Pocharam Srinivasa Reddy.

The bench also found fault with the agenda for the meeting which was mooted for a no-confidence vote against the committee. The bench observed that the Cooperative Societies Act was brought in to protect societies from political influence.

A single judge had stayed the order of the district registrar issued on September 5, while dealing with a petition by society president K. Ram Reddy. While refusing to intervene in the matter, the bench dismissed the appeal.
