China's TCL electronics to set up unit in AP
Vijayawada: China’s leading consumer electronics manufacturing company, TCL Corporation, will set up operations at Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. Representatives of state IT and electronics department and TCL Corporation signed agreements in this regard in the presence of IT minister Nara Lokesh in China on Thursday. The MoU was signed after a meeting between the IT minister and TCL Electronics, CEO, Kevin Wang.
It will be TCL’s only investment in India. Chinese major, TCL, is into manufacturing of TVs, smart phones, washing machines, air conditioners, refrigerators and other consumer electronics.
The Chinese company employs around 75,000 people across its companies around the globe. It stands third in the world in TV panels manufacturing. TCL manufactures around 80 lakh TV panels every year.
Lokesh told the representatives of TCL that Andhra Pradesh was the only state in India which has three electronics manufacturing clusters. He added that while other states have been into assembling of electronic goods, AP is emerging as an electronics manufacturing hub. He added AP has plans to emerge as a destination for electronics design.
Earlier in the day, as part of his China visit, Mr Lokesh spoke about emerging technologies, the fourth industrial revolution and also on the development taking place in Andhra Pradesh.
