CB probes 1998 nun death case

A team headed by a circle inspector gathered information from M.L. George, secretary of the CLA, on his complaint.

Kozhikode: The hurt and homicide wing of the crime branch police has initiated an investigation into a two-decade-old death of a nun in a convent here.
The probe follows a representation by the reformist Catholic Laymen’s Association (CLA) to the police chief Loknath Behera. The body of Sr Jyothis, 22, was found in the well of the Sacred Heart Convent in Kallurutty on Nov. 20, 1998.

A team headed by a circle inspector gathered information from M.L. George, secretary of the CLA, on his complaint.

They also visited the house of the nun at Vayalada and talked to her relatives as part of the preliminary investigation. "We have submitted our findings to the higher officials," said a team member preferring anonymity. Another mysterious death in focus is that of a nun in a convent at Marakavu in Pulpally, Wayanad.

Mr George said though he had earlier demanded an investigation into these deaths, it was a recent complaint to Mr Behera that yielded a result. “I am ready to submit whatever evidence I have,” he told DC. “Though the autopsy found a vaginal injury, the police hushed up the case.”

Apart from these two deaths, he also demands a probe into the missing of Fr Jaison Kandathinkara, a priest at Poovaramthode parish of the Thamarassery diocese.
