Telangana government earns Rs 411 crore from liquor applications
Hyderabad: The Telangana Government has set a record for the revenue earned in the form of application fees for liquor licences.
The government has earned Rs 411 crore in revenue through the receipt of 41,119 applications, of which 23,725 were made on Tuesday alone, for 2,216 liquor shops in the state. Last year, a total of 31,000 applications were received.
There is only one shop, in Malkajgiri, for which there are is application.
Last year, there were 72 liquor shops in Hyderabad for which there were no applications.
There has been a 100 per cent increase in the non-refundable application fee, from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh, and the government had expected this to cause the number of applications to reduce, but the converse seems to have occurred.
Hyderabad has received lowest number of applications. With 183 liquor shops in Hyderbad, the state government has received only 660 applications.
