Denotification cases against BS Yeddyurappa: Karnataka High Court order today
BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday is expected to dictate its orders on the petitions filed by former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa challenging the two FIRs filed against him in connection with the denotification of 257 acres of land notified for the formation of Dr Shivaram Karanth Layout.
The court has adjourned the matter to Thursday for dictation of orders on the interim prayer by Yeddyurappa, seeking a stay on further proceedings in the case.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the prosecution and the defence lawyers concluded their arguments in the matter. Following the submission of senior advocate C.V. Nagesh for Yeddyurappa that ACB has not followed its own rules, such as to seek sanction from competent authority before registering the case. The advocate for ACB, however, argued that there is no need of seeking such prior sanction in this case as the petitioner is no longer serving the same position (chief minister).
HC pulls up cops over inaction
The HC was on Wednesday dissatisfied that the city police had not taken action against illegal slaughterhouses in the city. Earlier, the court had appointed court commissioners to inspect such illegal abattoirs, and asked the police to protect them. But the city police had failed to provide security, citing law and order issues.
The court pointed to a report that at least 27 illegal slaughterhouses operated in city and the police seemed to have no clue about them. Meanwhile, the court has sought a report on the measures taken to curb illegal slaughtering of animals. A PIL filed by Gau Gyan Foundation, New Delhi, has sought court’s directions to implement the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act,1960 and Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 1964.
