BBMP's package for poor cardiac patients
Bengaluru: The BBMP has signed an MoU with Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology and Victoria Hospital to help urban poor get treated for cardiac ailments.
BBMP Taxation and Finance Committee chairman M.K. Gunashekar said that as promised in the BBMP budget, the committee has set aside Rs 4 crore for the treatment of cardiac patients from the economically weaker sections.
Under the scheme, the beneficiary will undergo both angiogram and angioplasty which comes as a package.
The BBMP extends the benefit to two cardiac patients from each of the 198 wards.
The corporator of a particular ward will pick the beneficiaries after verifying their economic status.
“The urban poor who comprise over 20 per cent of the city’s population cannot afford treatment at private hospitals. Angioplasty costs Rs 2.5 to Rs. 3 lakh. The scheme helps them get timely treatment,” he said.
“The draft rules have been formed after holding a meeting with Jayadeva Hospital Director Dr Manjunath. It will be finalised shortly. Rs 3.5 crore has been deposited with the Jayadeva Hospital, while Rs 50 lakh has been earmarked for Victorial Hospital. The scheme benefits 396 heart patients. This is the first of its kind scheme in any civic body across the country,” he said.
