Tirupati: Celebrations broke out in Tirupati after the city was named in the list of 27 new smart cities announced by the Central government on Tuesday. These 27 cities are spread across 12 states. Amritsar, Agra, Kanpur, Thane, Ajmer, Nagpur and Tirupati have been included in the second phase of the smart cities mission.

Employees of Tirupati Municipal Corporation burst firecrackers and distributed sweets. District collector Siddharth Jain and municipal commissioner V. Vinay Chand cut a cake in celebration. Later, Mr Vinay Chand told the media that the corporation’s hard work for the last six months to get the city on the list finally paid off. The holy city will be developed on par with other major cities with all the facilities, he said.
