Technical update hits train services in Vijayawada
VIJAYAWADA: The South Central Railway (SCR) has cancelled and diverted passenger and express trains till September 28 to replace singalling equipment at Vijayawada station. SCR will be replacing 40-year-old equipment known as route relay interlocking with new equipment that will reduce waiting time for trains to get a platform. About 2,000 workers apart from engineering, telecom and operating staff, have been deployed to complete the task.
A total of 192 services were cancelled, 358 cancelled partially and 210 others were diverted. The APSRTC will provide link buses to passengers to reach Vijaya-wada from temporary rail terminals like Gannavaram, Rayana-padu and other places. SCR has diverted the Satavahana Express to run between Khammam and Secunderabad on Septem-ber 22, 23 and 24. It is cancelled on September 25 but will run as per schedule from September 26.
Golconda Express will run as per schedule except on September 23 when it is cancelled. Intercity and Krishna Express will not touch Khammam during the time and will be diverted on the Bibinagar-Nadikudi line. Three passenger trains, Kazipet passenger, Bhadrachalam Road passenger, and Mahbubabad-Dornakal passenger were cancelled during the period. The TSRTC will run 68 bus services to Hyderabad, Garla, Vijayawada, Warangal and Mahbubabad. Trains from Visakhapat-nam to Hyderabad, New Delhi and Mumbai were diverted via bypass line. Trains from Howrah to Chennai were being terminated either at Eluru or Visakhapatnam.
