Hyderabad civic body says killer road is with HMDA
Hyderabad: A blamegame started over the death of a woman due to a pothole at Jeedimetla. GHMC executive engineer Ram Prakash said the road opposite Mylane Company at Rajiv Gandhi Nagar was handed over to the HMDA to develop a six-lane road. “It is under their maintenance,” he said.
GHMC chief engineer, road maintenance, Subash Singh, said that 4,600 new potholes had formed on the city’s roads after Friday’s rain. “We have filled about half of them. We will complete the rest in another four days.” He said that fresh potholes were being formed whenever it rained, and the GHMC would examine the quality aspects.
He said that at least a day was required for the repairs to potholes to firm up, and there should be no traffic movement on the spot. “On city roads this is impossible. The city has high density of vehicles and traffic cannot be stopped. Thus 20 to 30 per cent of the material scatters. Potholes have to be filled because they are more dangerous.”
