Hyderabad: Ms Chandramma, the mother of G. Prakash, who died due to alleged neglect on Sunday night, will hold protests at both Gandhi Hospital and Osmania General Hospital along with her two daughters.
Health minister C. Laxma Reddy on Tuesday asked Gandhi Hospital superintendent Dr K.J. Reddy and his Osmania Hospital counterpart Dr G.V. Murthy for an explanation about the medical care offered in their hospitals at night.
Accident victim Prakash had been sent to OGH from Gandhi Hospital as the ventilator was not working due to lack of maintenance. At OGH he was denied a ventilator despite the hospital having an adequate number of the machines.
A source said that a detailed explanation had been sought from both the state hospitals about the lapses. The doctors have been warned that such incidents must not occur again and there must be proper communication between the emergency sections and other departments, he said.
During a three-hour long meeting, the minister asked the doctors to reach out to the victim’s family. Ms Chandramma, who suffers from paralysis and who can barely speak, will be brought to the city by Prakash’s friends. His friend B. Raju said, “She is now on her own. Her two daughters are living elsewhere and for now the neighbours are taking care of her. We want the government to grant her compensation as the loss of her son is due to their negligence.”
Meanwhile a senior doctor at OGH explained, “Prakash was admitted in the hospital and only after that was the CT scan carried out. Instead of waiting for the treatment, his friends took him away. A case of ‘Left Against Medical Advice’ has been recorded in the medical journal.”
An inquiry is going to be carried out by Dr Murthy at OGH to check what transpired on Sunday night, and a detailed report will be presented to the health minister within a fortnight.
