District fight unites Jangaon JAC
Jangaon (Warangal): Scores of people including students, lawyers, government employees and party workers from across the political spectrum and all mandals of Jangaon on Tuesday filled the huge tent erected at the Preston Grounds to attend the a public meeting called by the Jangaon JAC as part of the agitation for Jangaon district.
JAC chairman Dashmanth Reddy said that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao promised to the people at the same venue in 2014 that Jangaon will be created as the 11th district once Telangana state was formed.
“Sadly, the hopes of all the people are dashed now,” he said. TJAC chairman Prof. M. Kodandaram said that the CM has made a mistake by not setting up a reorganisation committee involving all political parties and intellectuals which would have been more democratic.
“If the state government made an Act for the district reorganisation stipulating all the guidelines for creating new districts, it would have taken place in a more scientific way. The public would not have opposed the decision. In Warangal district, Jangaon people are demanding separate district. Warangal people are opposed to Hanamkonda district.
The CM is opposed to both and then he says district reorganisation will take place only according to the wishes of the people,” Prof Kodandaram said, demanding Jangaon be made a district.
Extending support to the JAC, educationist Chukka Ramaiah said that Jangaon reflects a rich culture in the region and has an identity of its own. By reorganising, it will lose it identity. “It is clear that there are political reasons behind Jangaon not being made district,” he said.
KCR indulging in egoistic politics is not good. He must remember that just like he headed an agitation for identity of Telangana, Jangaon people are fighting for theirs. He must understand this and not forget the people who made him a CM and fulfil their aspirations. If not, it might cost him dearly,” Mr Ramaiah said.
Local MLA Muttireddy Yadagiri Reddy, MP R. Anand Bhaskar, N. Rajender Reddy from Congress, Sitakka and G. Satyanarayana from the TD, M. Dharma Rao from BJP and others took part in the meeting.
