BBMP resumes demolition drive, recovers 41 sites
Bengaluru: The BBMP resumed its anti-encroachment drive on Tuesday and recovered as many as 41 vacant sites in different parts of the city and razed down a compound wall of a school and an RCC structure.
After the survey officials confirmed the extent of encroachment on the government land and storm water drain a compound wall of an educational institution that belonged to Karnataka State Muslim Federation, headed by Congress leader C.M. Ibrahim. He is also chairman of state planning commission.
“The compound wall had come up illegally on the survey number 22/33 of Nagawara in North Bengaluru and had encroached 5 acres and 4 guntas of drain space. The encroached land is estimated to worth about Rs 6 crore.
No building had come up in the encroached area,” said Siddegowda, chief engineer, storm-water drains. The BBMP aimed to recover about 1,350 metres of encroached land.
The authorities have surveyed and fixed the encroached boundaries. At Srinivasapura village of Jakkur ward, Byatarayanapura zone, five vacant sites which had encroached on drain stretching about 400 metres has been reclaimed.
At Harohalli village in Chowdeshwari ward of Yelahanka zone, 20 vacant sites had come up encroaching 300 metres of drain. Another concrete roofed structure was brought down on Tuesday at Shettihalli ward of Dasarahalli zone. Fourteen vacant sites, which had encroached upon 700 metres, were cleared to make space for the drain.
