Startup launches DineUps to deliver home-cooked meals

The location-based search ena-bles diners to pinpoint and order food options within five kilometre radius.

Kochi: Eclectic Eats, a Kozhikode-based startup, has launched DineUps, its app for ordering home-cooked food, in Kochi. Sajna Veettil, a native of Kozhikode with a master’s degree in engineering, Somy Silvy, a native of Changanacherry with a degree in engineering and masters in analytics and Mark Wong, an engineer, entrepreneur and lifelong resident of New York have come together to launch the startup.

“DineUps was launched with the vision of nurturing healthy eating habits while boosting women entrepreneurship. DineUps provide a platform for diners to order home-cooked meals by connecting them with home-based chefs. The location-based search enables diners to pinpoint and order food options within five kilometre radius. The payments can be made electronically via the app. Buyers can select home delivery or in-person pickup, and submit feedback about the experience through the app,” said Sajna, who is the brainchild behind the company.

Somy Silvy said that home-based chefs who are licenced by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) would only be allowed to align with the app. “The transaction happens directly between the chef and buyer and we are just a facilitator. Unlike other apps, here the chef can decide the price of his/her product,” said Somy Silvy.

The DineUps app is available currently on the Google Play Store with an iOS version to be launched by the end of August 2019 and it will be available in Kochi from September 1. DineUps is also launching an easy-to-use subscription based service where buyers can set up recurring deliveries for lunch or dinner for a month or longer which would be useful for elderly people staying alone. DineUps for the first time launched its full-fledged version in Kozhikode in April this year and has 500 users and 70 home chefs in the network there now.
