Nizamabad: Irregularities found in issuing of crop loans

NIZAMABAD: Irregularities in issuing of crop loans came to fore in Nizamabad district.

By producing fake land certificates, a few farmers took crop loans from the banks. Allegedly, crop loans worth Rs 2 crore were misappropriated in Yedapally mandal. Noticing this, political leaders began agitation demanding action against those responsible for the irregularities.

Recently, women self-help group members of ARP Camp village approached Syndicate Bank branch at Yedapally mandal headquarters for loans. The bank officials suggested that one of their group members, Vijaya, should repay crop loan of Rs 1.90 lakh to get new loan. SHG members, including Vijaya, were shocked to hear as she does not have any lands.

After an inquiry, the bank officials found that by producing fake certificates, a few unidentified persons availed the crop loans from the bank.

Around 72 such cases were reported during the internal inquiry. It is believed that a section of the bank employees, with the help of middlemen, issued bogus crop loans in the last two years. The bankers issued crop loans to someone else in the name of the farmers.

In this context, zilla parishad vice chairperson Rajitha Yadav, MPP president K. Srinivas and others staged a protest at the Syndicate Bank branch demanding a thorough inquiry into the irregularities. They also demanded revenue, agriculture officers to initiate action against Mee Seva centre organisers for issuing fake land certificates for crop loans.
