Kochi: Exhibition brings back their flood memories
Kochi: The school students stood in awe while watching images of deluge and despair as they survived the century’s worst natural calamity in August 2018.
A group of 16 students from SHJ Upper Primary School, Eloor, visited the photo exhibition on 2018 floods, jointly organised by Indian Oil Corporation, Lalithakala Akademi and Ernakulam Press Club at Durbar Hall Art Gallery.
The students shared their experiences during the floods.
“I feel gloomy after seeing the photo exhibition which has fully captured the fury of the disaster,” said Rahna Biju, a student.
“The children could easily recognise with the anguish and helplessness reflected in the pictures as they themselves passed through the situation. Except for a few, all students in the school had to face the situations portrayed in the photographs,” said Sr. Maria Anna, principal of the school.
“Our school remained inundated under 10-feet deep water for several days. Though the school could recuperate all that is lost within a few months, with the support of NGOs, individuals and various associations, the fear factor is still there. This time, when the water level started to increase in Periyar, we shifted everything in the school to a safe place,” added the principal.
