Cleaning ponds needs more people\'s effort: K S Palanisamy

State government is implementing \'Kudimaramathu Panigal\' in which 134 works are being implemented in Tirupur district at a cost of Rs 15 crore.

TIRUPUR: The Tirupur district collector K S Palanisamy called for more voluntary participation by the members of the public to clean up ponds and lakes as part of conservation of water resources across the district.

He was speaking after inaugurating works on de-silting of ponds at Karaipudur village near Palladam on Tuesday in the presence of Palladam MLA Karaipudur A Natarajan. The collector said, "the state government is implementing 'Kudimaramathu Panigal' in which 134 works are being implemented in Tirupur district at a cost of Rs 15 crore. Accordingly, de-silting of 824 ponds and lakes in Tirupur district have been taken up for de-silting for in the first phase and works have been launched."

According to him, clean-up of two ponds, which is spread across 16 acres area in Karaipudur village, has begun with 100 per cent contributions from the public.

He added: "similarly, we welcome public and volunteers to take part for de-silting of tanks and lakes in various parts of the district. Public should come forward to protect water resources, planting trees and also avoiding usage of plastics."
