Water tanks in Nizamabad and Kamareddy fill up

Around 1,200 water tanks in the district have received surplus water during the continuous rains.

NIZAMABAD: Following incessant rains for the last few days in the undivided Nizamabad districts, water tanks, after restoration under the Mission Kakatiya programme, have filled up. Around 1,200 water tanks in the district have received surplus water during the continuous rains.

Minor and medium irrigation water tanks were restored and repaired in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts at a cost of Rs 332 crore in four phases of the Mission Kakatiya programme. Irrigation officials are monitoring the flow of floodwaters into the water tanks across the districts. According to official sources, around 70 water tanks in the districts received surplus water.

Another 116 water tanks reached full tank level. Meanwhile, low-lying areas in Nizamabad town were affected with floodwaters. Bodhan road, Malapally, Arsapally, NRI colony, Goshala road and other localities in the town witnessed floods. People faced difficulty in travelling to water logged areas in the town. Drainages overflowed with rain water. Migrant labourer families at the Gupanpally Phulong stream were rendered homeless as their makeshift houses were inundated with floodwaters.
