Drunk surgeon knocks down pedestrian on Domlur flyover
BENGALURU: A speeding BMW, driven by an inebriated surgeon, knocked down a 17-year-old flower vendor on the pot-holed ridden Domlur-Indiranagar flyover on Sunday night. The doctor, Ravi Teja, 30, who is a surgeon at Manipal Hospital, has been arrested by the Ulsoor traffic police. The deceased has been identified as Kevin, a resident of Domlur. The police said that around 12.30 am early Monday morning, Dr Teja was driving back home in an inebriated state, failed to notice Kevin crossing the road and knocked him down.
Dr Teja immediately got down from the car and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The Ulsoor traffic police registered a case however and produced Dr Teja before the court on Monday. The flyover, used by thousands everyday has five speed-breakers which have deteriorated into craters and is extremely poorly-lit and has no divider which is high enough to prevent jay-walkers and vendors from crossing from one side to the other. Both approaches to the flyover are poorly policed and sees even motorcyclists crossing with impunity as well as autorickshaws and motorbikes being driven against incoming traffic post-midnight.
