Many Hyderabad roads have no zebra crossings, say experts
Hyderabad: Citizens and traffic experts say that zebra crossings are not properly demarcated at many junctions.
Mr Vinod K. Kanumala from the Indian Federation of Road Safety, said, “Hyderabad lacks proper road infrastructure. There is no coordination between the traffic police and the GHMC. While the traffic police focuses on enforcement, the GHMC should build the necessary infrastructure. Unless the government provides infrastructure, citizens will not follow the rules.”
Asked about the missing zebra crossings, Hyderabad traffic DCP A.V. Ranganath said the GHMC was having them painted.
“They have not been able to continue the work because of the rain,” he said.
He said police had been instructed to book motorists caught at junctions that have proper markings. “Along with sharing of videos, offenders will also be issued challans,” he said.
