Hyderabad: Work begins on NTR marg sewage line

In order to carry out the work seamlessly, a new metallic pipeline can now be seen running along the edge of the famous NTR road.

Hyderabad: A year after the NTR Marg road caved in, the HMWSSB began work on Sunday to rehabilitate the old dilapidated sewage pipeline that passes under the road. Officials said that a new trenchless system will be used with CITP technique that involves placing a new liner inside the existing 1.5 km pipeline.

In order to carry out the work seamlessly, a new metallic pipeline can now be seen running along the edge of the famous NTR road. This pipe will divert water from the three upstream manholes so that the lining work can be done in the area. The 1.5 km pipeline is over 25 years old and was damaged due to the heavy flow in its lines.

The pipeline carries sewage from the pipelines of Somajiguda and Amberpet Sewage treatment Plants (STPs). “This metallic line on the road will be carrying sewage out to the downstream manhole until the lining work is complete. The entire 1.5 km stretch of the sewer lines will take six months time to complete,” said Mr Majeed Afjal, the general manager of the Sewage Treatment Plant Division. The pipeline at NTR Marg will be removed in 10-12 days.
