Roads unit takes civic body to cops over Nallagandla damage
Hyderabad: Fed up with constant notices to the GHMC on Nallagandla road, the R&B department has filed a complaint at the Chandanagar police station. The complaint has also accused the residents of Old Nalagandala village who were partly responsible for damaging the Rs 20-lakh worth BT Road.
“The GHMC has been served many notices to rectify the poor sewage line that is directly coming onto the road. The civic body, in turn, blocked the storm water culvert which damaged the road,” said Mr Shyam Sudarshan, an engineer with R&B.
Though the police have not filed an FIR over the complaint, they are planning to hold a public meeting post Ganesh Chathurthi to iron out the issue.
The sewage from upstream localities like Huda Colony gets mixed with the storm water drain from the culvert and enters Old Nallagandala village, leading to health hazards. Earlier, the villagers had tried to block the culvert with sand. However, on Friday night they blocked it by using cement.
Blaming the GHMC for leaving the sewage line work half done, R&B officials flayed the GHMC for endangering people’s lives and hindering developmental works.
GHMC officials cited paucity of funds as the reason for this. They also found fault with the sewage pipes.
