Pawan Kalyan admits to being helpless over Special Category Status
Hyderabad: For the first time, actor Pawan Kalyan, who heads the Jana Sena, expressed his helplessness to lead a mass agitation protesting against the Centre’s meagre financial assistance and also failing to commit to Special Category Status to AP. The actor-politician meekly that it was not possible for him to fight the Centre for SCS, especially when elected legislators had failed to get an assurance on the issue from the Centre.
Speaking to newsmen for a brief while at his residence on Saturday, he said that he has to tread cautiously on the issue. “What else can be done to achieve Special Status to AP?” the actor said. The Jana Sena chief had on April 30 tweeted, calling upon the people and public representatives to unite and fight for the cause till the Centre granted SCS. Pawan Kalyan, who is known for making statements that are a departure from the ones made by full-time politicos, on Saturday appeared to be submissive in his reaction to the issue, when he had, on several occasions earlier, promised to fight for.
“It is a serious issue, one needs to be cautious while speaking on this. Let there be no emotional and mindless statements on this. I don’t think I can make it possible when several MPs, MLAs and Opposition could not do it. Both the BJP and TD had promised special status for AP, and it is their responsibility to deliver it. Let the Centre, once and for all, come clear whether it will grant SCS or reject the demand, then only can we react,” he said.
The actor continued, “Let me think more on this and let me decide what can be planned (agitation) to achieve this.” He said that just because he had a personal rapport with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he cannot be expected to do more than the public representatives.
